Why Kids Sports?

So let's get right to it...

Why kids sports? There is a laundry list of reasons why it is beneficial for your kids to play sports.

Here are a few reasons kids should play sports:

  • When kids are involved in sports there is always something for them to do. They practice...practice...practice, then have a game...then repeat.

  • Your children will be less likely to get involved with drugs or smoking if they play sports.

  • When kids play sports they will be more motivated to stop playing on the computer, watching TV, or playing video games and get outside for exercise instead.

  • Sports can be an excellent self-esteem and confidence builder.

  • Playing sports is a natural way to relieve stress and reduce the possibility for depression.

  • When kids are in sports they are more likely to do well in school. They learn the dedication and hard work from the sports they play then apply that toward their studies.

  • Obviously playing sports is great exercise, and incorporating exercise into your child's life at an early age will make them more likely to continue that routine as they grow older.

  • Sports will help kids learn teamwork, which is an important skill they will need for the rest of their lives. They learn to work together as a team to accomplish a common goal.

  • Being on a team for sports teaches your child discipline. They learn to set goals and work hard to achieve them.

  • Kids in sports learn how to overcome obstacles.

So the above reasons may be why parents would like their kids to play sports, but what about the kids?

Keep Your Kids Busy and Involved

We are all born with the need to “belong” to something. We have an instinct to be accepted into a group, and we naturally want others to be proud of us.

Since this is part of our human nature, we need to recognize it and nurture it in the most positive way possible. We as parents have the power to help influence those choices for our kids while they are still young.

Getting kids involved with some type of group, whether they play kids sports or get involved with some other organization, is the best way to keep them out of the wrong crowd of kids or a gang that could start them down the wrong path in life.

The busier you kids are, the less time they have to do wrong. Not only do they stay busy, but they enjoy it!

So what sport do our kids like to play? Our answer is “several”!

See, every time I think that one of my boys has found their favorite sport, they find another one they like too.

Each sport has its own fascinating twist of rules and they vary upon being more individual or team oriented.

We tend to play kids sports that have more individual time to see our children shine! Even though most sports do involve a team, some allow your child more individual attention than others.

You also get more involved with the other players on the team when you get to see them each perform individually.

Why Would Your Kids Want to Play Sports?

So I stated the many reasons your kids should play sports, but why would they want to play sports?

Good question! They want to play sports for many reasons too:

  • Meet new friends
  • Playing with friends
  • Get recognition
  • Feel a sense of accomplishment
  • Entertainment
  • Exercise
  • Just plain old fun
